Printing & Finishes
Learn how print methods and surface treatments interact with artwork, quantity, and substrate choice.
Offset lithography
Offset excels at consistent color on medium to long runs of folding cartons and litho-laminated corrugated. Plate costs amortize across quantity.
It supports fine detail for small type on ingredient panels when paired with appropriate coatings.
Digital print
Digital production helps short runs, versioning, and personalization without new plates for every change.
Color gamut and match to Pantone references should be proofed on the intended substrate, especially kraft.
Flexography on flexible packaging
Flexo is common on pouches, bags, and roll labels. Artwork should avoid extremely fine knock-out type unless plate line counts are agreed in prepress.
White ink stations may be required for vibrant art on clear or metallic films.
Coatings and laminates
Aqueous, UV, and matte laminates protect against scuffing and moisture. Soft-touch coatings change tactile feel but may show fingerprints.
Spot gloss and matte contrast can highlight logos without adding foil tooling.
Foil, emboss, and deboss
Foil stamping and embossing add premium cues on rigid wraps and cartons. Combine with simplified print layers to avoid registration issues.
Discuss minimum line weights and art direction with prepress before committing retail photography.
